Frequently Asked Questions

When do you post?
Mondays and Thursdays.

Why do the dates on the posts not always match up with when they were posted?
Because of my schedule I sometimes have to delay posts. Sometimes the delays aren't that long and other times the blog has to go on an indefinite hiatus. In order to keep up with the continuity of the story, I back-date posts to be posted to make sense in Faith's timeline so there aren't huge gaps of time. That means that sometimes a post will say it was posted in October when I actually posted it three months later. If the dates are off, it means I'm trying to get caught back up to real time.

Why would you write X story line? There's no way that could happen!
Although I try to write the blog to be realistic, there are some stories that have some elements of whimsy or serendipity. For example (spoiler alert!), yes Faith would be unlikely to find Murphy in a shelter after her fire considering how many shelters exist in such a big city but reading this blog does require you to suspend SOME of your disbelief. I do try to keep the blog as realistic as possible but sometimes some exaggeration is needed to help move the story along and keep it interesting.

Why don't you post more often/Why don't you write longer posts?
The reason I continued writing MDF after my creative writing class was finished was because of the creative outlet it provided me. After I returned to school, it quickly became one of the ONLY creative outlets for me (the most creative stuff I get to do as a biology major minoring in chemistry and studying for the MCAT is probably picking out what highlighters I'm going to use for each of my class subjects) and I've always been a very creative person (you don't major in a Fine Art the first time through undergrad if you aren't a creative person). And because it's meant to be an outlet for me it also means that I have a finite amount of time to dedicate to it every week (currently I put two hours aside specifically for the blog); unfortunately that also means that it's not as high of a priority when things get hectic for me.
I'm not a professional writer and I don't want to be one. Honestly, if that's the career I wanted I probably WOULD post long posts every weekday. I would also have ads all over my page and constantly be trying to get the word out on this blog to gain more readers to eventually land a book deal. But I want to be a doctor so 95% of my energy throughout the day is dedicated to doing that (I volunteer at four hospitals for at least 8 hours a week, I'm a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters, I volunteer at a food pantry, I do medical research, and I'm a TA for the anatomy program at my school; amid all of that I submitted 17 applications to medical school within the past three months and spent the entirety of my summer studying for the MCAT for at least 8 hours a day, and I go to school full time and work as a tutor part-time). I don't mention that because I want to brag or have you feel sorry for me or scold anyone, I just think it puts into perspective just how busy I am and gives you a better understanding for why there are only two posts a week and why they aren't super long (I usually aim for a minimum of 2 pages in Microsoft Word per post although some posts may be shorter and other posts may be four times that, it depends on the post).
Believe me when I say the posts I publish are absolutely the most I can currently put out and still maintain a somewhat high-quality story. I know you're excited about the blog and just can't wait for the posts and I LOVE your enthusiasm but it's just not feasible for me to write more often/longer posts currently. Instead I encourage you to have discussions in the comments and interact with your fellow readers (not because it makes me feel good to read your comments (which it does, reading comments makes my day), but because when the original Bedroom Blog was a thing the regular commenters there really developed their own community which was a really awesome experience to be a part of and made the waits in between posts a lot easier).
All of that being said, it is possible that I will be able to write more often in the future.

When do you post surprise/extra posts?
They are entirely random. I tried giving myself a number to shoot for but found it was unattainable. So they are random and meant to be a surprise, but generally I will try to let you know ahead of time in a post so you know to be on the lookout throughout the week. I recommend signing up with a blog roll or to add MDF to your blogger account so you will be alerted every time a new post is made so you'll never miss one.

    1. I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I like pediatrics and emergency medicine but that's because those are the areas I volunteer in currently. I also really like internal medicine and obstetrics so I'm kind of all over the place with my interests. I'm sure it'll change the more exposure I get.

    1. There were a lot of reasons. The short of it is that I liked being a stage manager but, ultimately, I wanted to do something more fulfilling and challenging. I love theatre and working in theatre; it provided me with a lot of friends, a good sense of camaraderie, and has heavily influenced who I am as a person. It was really hard for me to acknowledge that I wouldn't be happy making it my career, but it just wasn't going to give me the opportunities to really do what I wanted to in the grand scheme of things.

  3. I've missed the last couple months and had to get caught up (which was fun) because your blog even though i follow you in bloglovin doesn't show that you are posting anything on my reader feed there. have you heard that issue before? i'm going to try unfollowing and then refollowing to see if that helps. but you could be losing lots of readers because of that.

    1. I haven't heard of that issue before but I'm assuming it's because of how I post things when I get behind. We're close to getting caught up to real time, so when we get there, maybe the problem will be fixed?

  4. I have to tell you that I love this blog and check daily to see if you have posted any spontaneous updates. I found you through lsp and started reading and couldn't stop for days so I could catch up. I I felt every up and down faith went through. I have to say though I'm still very partial to Mike (the firefighter) there is just so much chemistry between them and despite everything that happened it's still there and everything seem to come so easy between them. I am hoping his mom is right by saying one day he will marry her. Mom's aren't always wrong .... are they?!
